Replacement Handles For Windows

Window handles are among the most used parts of double-glazed windows. Over time, they can get worn out or rusted.

To replace a UPVC window handle, you have to know the spindle length of your existing handle and also its fixings. The best way to do this is by looking at the base of the handle you have previously replaced.

Handle

Over time, uPVC window handles and locks can be damaged through wear and tear, or even intentional damage. When replacing a uPVC window handle, it's a good idea to use screws with cover caps to ensure the screws are secure and protect them from corrosion. Alternatively, it's possible to make use of a spacer or washer to create a more secure seal. A screw cap that is in place will also prevent debris and water from getting into the handle and damaging the handle.

After the handle has been removed from the window, it's recommended to wash the spindle of the new handle, as well as the threaded part of the bolt. This will ensure that the new handle fits and works well, and it can also help keep any dirt from entering the multipoint lock.

A squeaky hinge could indicate that the hinges require to be replaced. This is usually caused by metal hitting metal. A small amount of lubricant may help but should the noise continue to be heard, it is likely that the hinges require replacement.

The windows that are plumb help to avoid the need for binding, this means that the operating sash of the window is in line with the frame, ensuring that it closes and opens correctly. Espag handles are equipped with a mental spindle at the back which is attached to the frame of the window locking handles and controls the mechanism. Cockspur handles are fitted with pegs that are held in the frame by three or four screws that are fitted in the sash and the frame.

It's simple to replace the window operator once you've identified the correct replacement double glazing handles. Remove any trim mounting screws from the casement cover, and carefully lift the cover off to expose the insides of the window operator (Photo 1). Compare the new lever with the old one and remove any trim screws that have rusted. Attach the new lever to your window frame. Replace any screws that have become rusted or bent. Then, put the casement cover on top of the mechanism.
