French Door Refrigerator With Ice Maker Review

Melding form with function, French-door refrigerators come with stylish double doors that open to an expansive fridge on the top and a freezer drawer below. These refrigerators stand out because of their special features, like through-the-door dispensers and higher-end Ice makers.

We contacted Ladina Schopf - interior designer, architect, and founder of LS Projects - for her advice on how to choose the right home. They evaluated the capacity of storage and layout and energy efficiency as well as other aspects.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

As its name suggests, GE’s Profile series is targeted at those who wish to integrate cutting-edge features in their kitchens. The refrigerator is brimming with them, from an in-the-door Keurig K-cup coffee maker to a clever water dispenser. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. Since this refrigerator costs an extra amount, I'd like to see better.

Apart from that minor flaw however, this refrigerator is a great option. It has a large freezer compartment that is not common for counter-depth French-door refrigerators. It also holds plenty of frozen food, which is a big difference from other models.

Inside the fridge, there are 17 shelves and compartments. The fridge compartment has 18.5 cubic feet, which is standard for a French-door refrigerator at this price. It has a decent-sized refrigerator with an ice maker in the left door. However it's not the most spacious one I've seen.

You can adjust the shelving in both compartments to create a custom storage setup for what you want to keep. The GE PYE22PYNFS's design for the interior is good-looking, too. Its LED lighting is a nice addition, and the in-door storage bins come with the third shelf, which can fold down so that you can store large items. The drawers come with temperature controls so that you can set them to Meat, Beverage or Deli settings. The drawers are easy to shut and open however I found the plastic's textured coatings a bit hard on my fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator comes with the complete set of features you'd expect from a refrigerator at this price, including Wi-Fi and app support through GE's SmartHQ software. The app, which is available for iOS and Android devices allows you to control your fridge from anywhere in the world, and it has numerous options for customization. It also sends you notifications when the door is unlocked and when the fridge or freezer requires defrosting, and when the filter needs to be changed.

It would be great to have GE PYE22PYNFS had Precise Fill, an option available in a handful of GE refrigerators that allows users to choose the amount of cups they wish to pour out. It does offer an indicator on the fridge display to display how much water have remaining, but that's not as helpful as Precise Fill.

Bosch Counter Depth french door fridge kitchenaid Door Refrigerator

The Bosch French-door Refrigerator is a stunning piece of equipment. It's designed to appear like it's a seamless part in your kitchen. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also boasts a veggie compartment that keeps vegetables and fruits fresher for longer, and two compressors to ensure maximum preservation of food. The Ice maker is among the top we've tested, and it produces a pyramid-shaped form of ice that is low in water usage. This fridge is the perfect option for households with a single member or kitchenettes that want a sleek design and top of the line food preservation.

This refrigerator was the highest-rated refrigerator in our Refrigerators test for various reasons. The freezer temperature remained steady at just above 0° Fahrenheit and never changed more than a fraction - this is essential to avoid the risk of a freezer burn. The fridge section of the fridge also did well. It reached the initial temperature set within a matter of hours, and remained at the temperature throughout our testing.

Bosch has a reputation for high-end appliances which is why it's no surprise that this counter-depth refrigerator is also a smart appliance with the option to connect to your home Wi-Fi as well as Bosch's Home Connect platform. This app lets you monitor and control your fridge remotely from your smartphone or tablet. The fridge is expensive and has great features and functions at a fair price.

While the fridge is a fantastic appliance but it's important to be aware of the limitations. You may need to get inventive with tall items since the fridge is limited in shelf space. The shelves aren't impervious to spills and could easily be stained or damaged by sharp items. The trays can be easily removed from the refrigerator. However, they must be cleaned frequently to stop the growth of mold.

LG Counter Depth kenwood french door fridge freezer Door Refrigerator

The LG LRFLC2706S is a great counter-depth refrigerator that packs a lot of storage into an extremely compact frame. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. Inside, the refrigerator has a standard french style american fridge freezer-door layout with gallon-sized bins for the doors on each door, two rows of shelves that capture spills and a set of sleeker drawers. The top shelf to the right can be folded to provide more space for taller items. There's also a full-width drawer to store products from the deli and an inside water dispenser.

One of the nice aspects of this refrigerator is that the ice maker is in the freezer, which makes it simple to move the ice to the refrigerator for use when required. The freezer has thoughtful design elements, for instance, sliding drawers to help you better organize the position of items. It also has a huge bin that can hold plenty of frozen food items as well as an container for storing ice.

Another awesome feature of this refrigerator is its Smart InstaView panel. You can control the temperature, lighting and other aspects of your refrigerator from your smartphone. It's a simple method to monitor your refrigerator and control it, especially when away from home.

Although the Smart InstaView is a neat feature, it doesn't improve the overall performance of the refrigerator. In fact, it took longer to defrost and chill foods in this refrigerator than some of the others we tried. This could be due to its larger capacity.

Another issue with the doors of this refrigerator. The handles that are sunken let shorter people open them from the bottom. However taller people struggle to close them without slamming. It would have been more effective to have front-mounted handles.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX fridge is an excellent choice for those who want to combine the look and feel of a French-door refrigerator with a more efficient design. Its capacity is higher than average for a counter-depth model and it cools evenly and has a good layout. It's also a little cheaper than the top counter-depth refrigerator that has an ice maker, which can make it a desirable choice.

Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

This Frigidaire French door refrigerator is a good choice if you want a French-door fridge that won't break the budget. It has a simple design that's not as striking visually like some of the competitors however it comes with enough features that make it a great pick. Its most significant feature, the temperature adjustable drawer, helps to keep food items like vegetables and meat fresher for longer. It also comes with a large ice maker as well as a water dispenser.

Another nice feature is the "Chill Drawer" that sits over the two crisper bins. This drawer lets you redirect some of the fridge's cooling power directly to this area, so you can keep food items that require special attention. This feature can be adjusted by using a slider on the outside of the drawer. You can also use this to set a general cooling level for the whole fridge, though I've found that adjusting the general settings tends have a better effect than specific ones.

During my tests, the temperature of the refrigerator were fairly constant across the different areas of the fridge. The temperatures in the middle, top and bottom of the refrigerator didn't vary much from 38 degrees. This is a pretty good performance, but it doesn't quite be among the top in our ratings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. This fridge can be connected with a smart thermostat to gain more precise information on the internal temperature of your fridge.

The Frigidaire FGHB2866PF's outside is made of grey-bodied stainless steel which has a "smudge-proof" finish. It is capable of repelling fingerprints and streaks, even compared to glossier stainless steel finishes on other appliances I've tested.
